Fountain Pens

After the continued promptings of a US correspondent, I tried a fountain pen. I was taken with the grip and tooth available with ink and paper combinations. With no slipping like a ballpoint, my penmanship improved and the rest is history.

Don't pelt me with olives, but I do not have a fountain pen addiction (I have others I can assure you). I own just a few and modest ones at that. Shame on me, they are all due for a cleaning. The following is my experience and opinion. Yours will differ.

Really like this pen. Large ink capacity, and I love the shape. I misplaced my first and couldn't do without it, so ordered another, only to find the first months later. Quite beneficial because I get to have both inked at the same time with two different inks. Here with Pelikan's Edelstein Tanzanite and Noodler's Navajo Turquoise. Both were a bit too wet straight out of the box. Yes, both have the same nib, stubs are my almost very favorite.

Petrol, limited edition. This is a favorite for many but I still don't know what the high draw is. I didn't expect to dislike this as much as I do. I like the window, and I like how it writes for a stiff nib. I don't like the clip. But most of all I can not post this pen! When posted the rim of the cap bothers the side of my index finger's knuckle. I really prefer to post my pens. I keep it inked with one of may favorite colours, Noodler's Apache Sunset, in an effort to tolerate this pen.

It might be embarrassing how much I like this pen due to its price point. But I'm not. I'm still trying to tune it because it is too dry. The nib seems a tad too sharp, but I feel that increasing the ink flow will remedy this. The only design change I would prefer is a snap-cap. I tend to be annoyed at having to screw a cap on and off. (but this may be because I use this pen a lot.) I'm partial to Stub and Italic nibs for the line variation they provide.

This is an attractive "Navajo" pen for the price. It's incredibly light weight, maybe too light. It's a Flex nib, which makes me sad. Flex nibs are my favorite, but I can't use this pen!! For some blasted reason its shape causes serious pain to my hand. I can only use it for very short letters. This has put me off of all Cigar shaped pens. Which as we know, are many. Maybe this will help my non-addition to stay a non-addiction.

Yup. This poor pen needs a cleaning. It's my go-to. I love the colour (Cardinal Darkness), the flow, the Flex nib, and the way it fits in my hand. It's always inked with brown (currently waiting for Golden Brown to finish so I can refill with Walnut). There is one thing I find an engineering annoyance: at times the blind cap gets seriously-stuck inside the cap when you post it. This only happens if the blind cap isn't snugly twisted on. Once you've had to fish the blind cap out a few times you become mindful.

This is one of the worst pens ever. One of my first purchases as a newbie (still am really). It writes horribly! Tuning will improve it little. It is very cheaply made, shamefully so, for its price point. Also a complete farce that it's a Flex nib. It should be boycotted. As I spent the money (at a pen show), I decided to find things I like about it so I can USE it. I like that it's a demonstrator, and I really like the way it fits in my hand when posted. It's a perfect size for travel. So I use it weekly for journaling. It's currently empty because it's due for a cleaning. Will be using a different ink, Pelikan's Edelstein Mandarin, in hopes it will improve the writing experience (doesn't deserve ama-iro iroshizuku).

I have a few other FPs that are  basically generic. One being a horrible Shaeffer I avoiding for a year. I tuned it recently and is writing beautifully now.

This should help establish that I am a complete novice and will disappoint in FP correspondence.

I might try another pen show this coming year (2019). I can't seem to get rid of my desire for a gold flex nib. Is there a Pilot Custom Heritage in my future? It may be too girthy, ...how on earth am I to test it for writing long missives?
